D.Sungkur Optometrist is a cashless optician in Mauritius, based in Quatre-Bornes, offering direct cashless (third-party) billing with seven leading health insurers — Swan, Medscheme, Eagle, Linkham, IBL Provident, Mosanté and SanlamAllianz. If your plan covers any of these, you pay nothing upfront at the boutique for your eye exam, your prescription glasses or your contact lenses — we handle all the paperwork. We also issue full invoices for Sicom, NIC and MUA reimbursement, and CIM Finance offers in-store instalment payments.

- Contact lenses when prescribed by an optometrist
- Progressive and photochromic lenses (subject to prescription strength)

How cashless works at D.Sungkur
Book your appointment
Call, WhatsApp or book online. No pre-authorisation is needed for most contracts.
Arrive with your documents
Bring your insurance card and national ID. We check your coverage before starting the exam or fitting.
Sign and leave
For cashless, we invoice the insurer directly. You sign the authorisation form once. No cash advance, no reimbursement forms to file — the boutique handles it all.
For reimbursement insurers (Sicom, NIC, MUA), the process is similar but you pay on the day and we provide a full compliant invoice — complete with all fields required for a successful claim.
What your optical benefit typically covers
Most Mauritius health plans structure their optical benefit as an annual cap covering three lines: the eye examination, prescription frames and lenses, and (where applicable) contact lenses. Specific limits vary by insurer and by the plan your employer has subscribed to — always check your certificate of coverage for the exact figures. A few patterns we see consistently at the boutique:
- The eye exam is almost always covered in full. If your plan has any optical benefit at all, the consultation itself is included.
- Frames and lenses share an annual cap. The cap typically resets every 12 or 24 months. If your prescription has changed and you're inside the renewal window, the cashless flow takes care of the rebate on the day.
- Contact lenses require an optometrist prescription to be claimable, so the fitting and the lenses are usually claimed together. Daily disposables are reimbursed per box, not per pair.
- If the cost exceeds your remaining benefit, we tell you the shortfall before any work begins. You can either adjust your choice or pay only the excess — never a surprise.
Cashless billing spares you the upfront payment: we invoice your insurer directly within your annual optical benefit, and you settle your share on the day. One authorisation to sign, and that's it.

Reimbursement: Sicom, NIC & MUA
For Sicom, NIC and MUA policyholders, the process works differently: you pay at the boutique on the day, then claim back from your insurer. We make this as smooth as possible by issuing a complete, compliant invoice with every field your insurer needs for a successful claim.
Sicom
You pay at the boutique and claim back from Sicom. We issue a complete invoice with optometrist details, diagnosis codes and itemised breakdown for your submission.
NIC
Same process as Sicom. We've helped many NIC-insured patients with their optical claims and know exactly what the invoice needs to include.
MUA
MUA (Mauritius Union Assurance) policyholders pay on the day and submit a claim to MUA for reimbursement. We provide a full compliant invoice for your submission.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which insurers are cashless at D.Sungkur?
Swan, Medscheme, Eagle, Linkham, IBL Provident, Mosanté and SanlamAllianz are our 7 cashless partners. With these insurers, you pay nothing on the day (within your contract limit) — we invoice the insurer directly. If your insurer isn't on this list, check the reimbursement options below.
What is the difference between cashless and reimbursement?
With cashless, you pay nothing at the boutique — we settle directly with your insurer. With reimbursement (Sicom, NIC, MUA), you pay us on the day and claim back from your insurer afterwards. We issue a full, compliant invoice in both cases to support your submission.
What does insurance typically cover?
Coverage varies by contract, but most optical plans contribute towards: the eye examination, prescription frames and lenses (once per year), and sometimes contact lenses when prescribed by an optometrist. Sunglasses and non-prescription eyewear are generally not covered. Check your specific contract or ask us to check it with you when you arrive. Read our guide on how often should you have an eye exam to understand when coverage applies.
What do I need to bring?
Your insurance card and your national ID are mandatory for every cashless or reimbursement claim. Bring your current prescription if you have one from a previous optometrist.
Can I use CIM Finance for glasses?
Yes. CIM Finance allows you to spread payments over several months. This is particularly useful for premium progressive lenses or designer frames where your insurance contribution doesn't cover the full amount. We set this up in-boutique — no need to visit a bank branch separately.
Is the eye exam covered by insurance?
Most Swan, Medscheme, Eagle, Linkham, IBL Provident, Mosanté and SanlamAllianz contracts include an annual contribution towards the eye examination. Check your certificate of coverage — typically listed under "optical benefit". If covered, you pay nothing for the exam. We check this with you before starting the appointment.
Do you handle the claim paperwork?
Yes. For cashless claims, we handle all billing directly — you sign once and leave. For reimbursement claims (Sicom, NIC, MUA), we provide a detailed, compliant invoice with all required fields (diagnosis, ICD code, optometrist details, itemised services) for a smooth claim submission.
