Lens types
Our lenses are precision-surfaced by an independent optical laboratory — each lens is shaped digitally to your exact prescription, not cut from a standard blank. The result: a cleaner field of vision, less edge distortion, and slimmer profiles even for stronger prescriptions.
Lens types
Single-vision
Standard correction for distance, intermediate or near vision. One prescription power across the full lens. Available in ultra-thin versions for stronger prescriptions. See our anti-reflective coating guide.
Progressive
Three vision zones in one lens: distance at the top, intermediate in the middle, near at the bottom. No visible line. The most natural transition available. A brief adaptation period is normal. See our guide to progressive lenses.
Office lenses
Optimised for intermediate and near distances: screen, desk and nearby colleagues. Wider near zone than a progressive — more comfortable for long hours at a screen. Compatible with any prescription.
Bifocal
Two distinct zones separated by a visible line: distance above, near below. Durable and economical. A straightforward choice when intermediate vision is not a priority.
Lens options & coatings
Photochromic
Clear indoors, automatically darkening in sunlight — no need to swap glasses. Practical under the Mauritius sun, available in 7 colours and in progressive versions. Not ideal for driving (they don't fully activate behind a windscreen); for the road, choose polarised or driving lenses instead.
Polarised
Eliminate glare from roads, water and sand — an immediate difference for driving in Mauritius and outdoor activities. Vision is sharper and more comfortable in bright light. Available with or without prescription, in various tints.
Blue light
A precision filter reduces blue-violet light emitted by phones, tablets and computers — the kind that builds visual fatigue by end of day and can disturb sleep. Compatible with any prescription, single-vision or progressive.
Driving coating
Specific treatment for driving: enhanced contrast for road markings and signs, reinforced anti-reflective for oncoming headlights. Available as a coating on single-vision or progressive lenses.
Anti-reflective
Standard multilayer treatment that reduces surface reflections and improves comfort in artificial light. Reduces glare on screens and in night driving. Included as standard on all our lenses.
UV coating
UV protection applied directly to the lens surface, recommended for lenses that do not naturally block 100% UV. Shields against cumulative UV exposure linked to cataract and macular risks.
The fitting process
Frame & lens selection
With your prescription confirmed, we guide you through the frame collection and recommend the right lens type for your lifestyle, prescription strength and budget.
Measurement
We measure your pupillary distance (PD) and, for progressive lenses, the exact fitting height for the optical centre. These measurements determine where on the lens your eye looks through — critical for progressives.
Collection & adjustment
When your lenses are ready (around 1 week for stock lenses, or 2–3 weeks for custom and progressive lenses), we fit them to your face with precision — temple length, nose-pad position, pantoscopic tilt. Minor adjustments are always free.
Progressive lenses require a correct fitting height. If the measurement is off by even 2 mm, adaptation is significantly harder — this is why an in-person fitting with a trained optometrist makes the difference between lenses you love and lenses that hurt.
Cashless insurance — pay nothing upfront
D.Sungkur is a direct cashless partner of seven health insurers: Swan, Medscheme, Eagle, Linkham, IBL Provident, Mosanté and SanlamAllianz. Within your contract limit, you pay only the excess — we invoice the insurer directly. Sicom, NIC and MUA operate on reimbursement: you pay on site, we issue a compliant invoice, and you claim back. For patients who prefer to spread payment on frames or specialised lenses, we are set up with CIM Finance.
Most cashless optical benefits include a combined contribution towards frames and lenses or contact lenses, once per year. Progressive lenses and photochromic lenses are often covered, subject to prescription strength.

Which frame brands do you carry?
We carry more than 12 premium international brands: Ray-Ban, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Emporio Armani, Jimmy Choo, Michael Kors, Hugo Boss, Guess, Vogue Eyewear, Polaroid, Fossil, Levi's and INVU. The full collection is updated seasonally.
What lens types are available?
We offer two ranges: lens types (single-vision, progressive, office lenses, bifocal) and lens options & coatings (photochromic, polarised, blue light, driving coating, anti-reflective, UV coating). Our optometrist will recommend the right combination for your lifestyle and prescription.
Is my eye exam included?
The frame and lens fitting appointment includes dispensing and adjustment. If you don't have a current prescription, an eye examination (from Rs 600) is required beforehand — we can do both on the same visit.
Can I use my insurance to pay for frames?
Yes. Our cashless partners Swan, Medscheme, Eagle, Linkham, IBL Provident, Mosanté and SanlamAllianz often include an annual contribution towards frames and lenses as part of their optical benefit. Sicom, NIC and MUA work on reimbursement. Bring your insurance card and national ID and we'll check your coverage before fitting.
How long does a frame fitting take?
Typically 15–20 minutes for frame selection and dispensing. Stock lenses are ready in around 1 week. Custom or progressive lenses require 2–3 weeks.
Do you offer repairs and adjustments?
Yes. We adjust and repair frames — nose pad replacement, screw repair, frame realignment — for all brands, including frames not purchased with us. Minor adjustments are often done while you wait.
